Media, Believe It or Not

mountain - media

Today we look at Media the fourth of seven mountains, based on the Seven Mountains of Prayer, a 31-day prayer guide for Oregon. These seven mountains or focuses are family, religion, education, media, entertainment, business and government.

As we begin looking at how to pray for the media mountain I knew there was nothing about media in the scripture, but stories and communication of current and past events happened in biblical times too, so I turned to 2 Peter 1:16-18

2PE 1:16 We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” 18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.

In this passage we see that communication was often embellished with cleverly invented stories; because people wanted and desired the sensational just as we do today, so as we pray for this mountain of media and the people who scale it, from our local TV, radio and printed communications to those on the national and international media stage we would be good to pray that they would speak truth of what they themselves witness and as they share the stories of other eyewitness accounts that they would not embellish them clouding the truths God desire to be shared.

I also believe real and lasting change on the media mountain begins with the consumer. You and I need to confess, repent and break hungering after such sensationalism, for we all know if it didn’t sell, those controlling the media mountain would change out of necessity.

The media mountain is both a symbiotic and a codependent mountain. For without the consumer this mountain would never have the sphere of influence it has in our lives. This mountain more then any other mountain can go off course when it doesn’t realize and acknowledge the truth of who is the true owner of the mountain, God himself. It is why for those called to pray for this mountain salvation is such a high priority.

So as this blog ends I leave the first thing “salvation” until last, hoping that this will be the thing you will remember. Pray for the salvation of those scaling this symbiotic mountain, for as they are saved we will find more people drawn by the power of the sights and sounds coming from this mountain into relationship with God.
