Climbing the Business Mountain

mountain - business

Businesses big and small need our prayer and encouragement. Today we look at Business the sixth of seven mountains, based on the Seven Mountains of Prayer focus of a 31-day prayer guide for Oregon. These seven mountains or focuses are family, religion, education, media, entertainment, business and government.

How do we pray for and encourage those on the business mountain? The world tells us to go out and buy products to stimulate the economy which feeds the soul, but does little to feed the spirit. To feed the spirit of those on this mountain we must care about who they are as people, I think of the relationship I have with Sandra who works at Mc Donald’s, with just a sentence or two as  I visit the drive through she is encouraged and her spirit is fed as I care about her. Prayer feeds the spirit, and so when you say you will pray follow through and do it! Many people say they will pray but it is those who do that truly make a difference.

Some of the most common areas to pray for those on the business mountain:

● To provide high quality goods and services that people need, which is good business sense.

● To deal fairly with the public and with those they get their goods and services from.

● Not to fall into idolizing their wealth

We often idolize those climbing the business mountain which God warns us in Leviticus 19:15 not to do. Rather we should pray for those scaling the business mountain using Isaiah 46:4 so they do not to make an idol out of their wealth, for as they do they will be tempted to bow down and worship it, instead of God.

● To have a balanced life

We need to pray for the families and the personal lives of those on the business mountain. Many are work alcoholics who have sacrificed their families instead of allowing their families to be the balance and the place of nurture their spirits needs. In Ecclesiastes 4:8 we see Solomon ask the question “for whom have I toiled?”; often after all of life had fallen apart this is the question someone climbing the business mountain has left to ask.

Our final prayer is based on Deuteronomy 1:21

See, the LORD your God has given you the land. Go up and take possession of it as the LORD, the God of your fathers, told you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

This is the amazing part as we look to pray for those who scale this business mountain, for discouragement is the beast which like the mountain lion threatens to take their life and rob them of the land God created them to possess.
