Precious Blood

3 07 2010

We are still in the series of the seven precious things found in 1st and 2nd Peter. Last time we looked at the preciousness of our trials and how they are part of God’s plan and purposes for our lives. Today we are looking at the precious blood of Christ.

For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom he paid was not mere gold or silver. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but he has now revealed him to you in these last days.

1 Peter 1:18-20

God’s plans and purposes have been prepared before the beginning of time. Yet to say we are mere puppets in the hands of God is wrong. God’s plans and purposes were for mankind to succeed in becoming the people God created us to be. Our choice to sin is our greatest handicap. In this we are all handicapped for as scripture tells us, all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.

Because of sin, God create forgiveness to cover sin, through the shedding of innocent blood. The greatest sacrifice God ever made was to choose to give up who he was, coming to Earth to identify with our struggle as a man, yet remaining sinless to pay the ultimate price for our sin. God knew as he made the world, that free will or choice had to be part of the equation.

Only as we choose, do we truly feel alive and have joy in living. It is choice that excites us, think of the joy children feel as they ponder choosing their favorite toy or piece of candy. God knowing the importance of freewill made plans and purposed this ultimate sacrifice of the blood of his son to pay the price of the effects of our freewill choices to bring us to back into relationship with him where He always intended us to be.

I leave you with this reality check; the blood of Christ is not a license to sin, so remember it is the choices you have when faced with sin that are really exciting, not the sin, because the wages of sin are death; death of your body, your soul, and/or your spirit.
