Having a Strong Heart Relationship with God part 5

9 07 2011

The depth of love and its attributes are key to having a strong heart relationship with God.

Last time we looked at the key turning point in love – keeping no record of wrongs. During this post we will explore why love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

Looking once again at 1 Corinthians 13:4 – 8

“Love is patient, love is kind.

It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails.”

Earlier in this study of I Corinthians 13 we learned love is a choice (June 28 post), and Psalms 52:3 reminds us all, we have the capacity to love both evil and good.  Romans 2:8 gives us insight into how we delight in evil and what the nature outcome is; “But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.”

When we focus on ourselves (self-seeking) we choose to be lured into delighting in evil, for our heart relationship with God is weak. We learned last time when we function from this self-seeking perspective we can become easily angered and here we learn that we can receive the wrath of God. How often in the natural, do we receive the wrath of others even if we don’t receive the wrath of God?

Rejoicing in the truth brings natural dividends too. Psalms 40:11 tells us God’s love and truth always protects us. Join me next time as we look at the dividends of love in a strong heart relationship with God.
