Having a Strong Heart Relationship with God – Part 6

12 07 2011

Love and its attributes are key to having a strong heart relationship with God. Last time we looked how love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with truth. In this post we will be looking at the dividends of love and how they affect our strong heart relationship.

Looking once again at 1 Corinthians 13:4 – 8,

Love is patient, love is kind.

It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails.

The dividends of love are: “it always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres”.

My husband and I went through a very rough time in our marriage for a year from the summer of 2003 to the summer of 2004 where if we had not relied on the dividends of love our marriage would have been lost.

It was these love dividends which got us through those moments leaving the counseling office when we questioned why were still married and not filing for divorce. We hoped, and we persevered even when we didn’t always trust each other and feeling unprotected. In the end it was feeling protected which brought us both back into each others arms for we knew what we had and we fought our changing communications needs to find each other again.

If my husband and I could count on the dividends of love to rebuild our strong heart relationship then how much more can we trust our love dividends in our heart relationship with God who created us? He always protects until we walk beyond it, always trusts us to choice well, always hopes for our return, even when we stray; and always perseveres to the point of giving his own son to save His relationship with us.

I am in awe of these love dividends and how they are foundational in having a strong heart relationship with God. I pray for you to receive these love dividends and may they bring forth a strong heart relationship with God and others. Join me next time as we close this series on having a strong heart relationship with God.
