Having a Strong Heart Relationship with God – part 7

16 07 2011

Love and its attributes are key to having a strong heart relationship with God. Last time we looked how love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  And today we finish this series by exploring how God’s unfailing love impacts our strong heart relationship with God.

Looking once again at 1 Corinthians 13:4 – 8,

Love is patient, love is kind.

It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails.

Psalms 32:10 tells us: “Many are the woes of the wicked, but the LORD’s unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him”. We can count on God’s unfailing love, at all times. Another verse in psalms 33:5 reminds us “the world is full of God’s unfailing love”.

Thirty two times the NIV records the words unfailing love, because God has a lot to say about unfailing love. Far too often we fear God’s unfailing love instead of embracing it. We think of God as unforgiving and harsh, yet God is just the opposite, for he is just and righteous. How can someone who is just and righteous be harsh and unforgiving? True righteousness extends forgiveness just as God has done in giving us his son.

1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

This passage in 1 John reminds us there is no fear in love for perfect (unfailing) love drives it out. The truth is you and I can extend perfect love for moments when our selfish drives and emotions don’t cloud our judgment, but God has perfect unfailing love at all times.

May the unfailing love of God rest upon us, O LORD, as we put our hope in you.

Blessings and Complete Joy,
