What is our Mission part 2

18 10 2011

Last time we began talking about our mission of reconciliation by looking at 2 Corinthians 5:15-17 and how we need to change our perspective because we are a new creation. In this post we look further at our mission of reconciliation.

2CO 5:18-19a “All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them.”

What is this ministry of reconciliation?

The ministry of reconciliation began with God’s act, sending Jesus to pay the price we couldn’t pay for ourselves. God has always desired reconciliation with us and through Jesus it was accomplished. We extend the ministry of reconciliation when we reach out to reconcile with our fellow-man.

Many of us want friendships and other relationships restored, but are we willing to pay the price.

I think of the song, “Breaking up is hard to do”. But is it really? How many of us have ended a relationship rather than putting in the time and effort (the emotional elbow grease) to restore the relationship. On our own reconciliation seems impossible and so we let go of this grand desire.

How is this reconciliation with our fellow-man possible? Acts 17:28, tells us “because we live and move and have our being in Christ.” In Christ you and I are new creations, the old is gone and the new has come. When we became a new creation we were given grace and as we extend grace to others, God shows us how to reconcile with our fellow-man. Sometimes we have to pay a price as Christ did and the only way we can do this is to determine for ourselves if reconciliation is worth the cost.

Next time we look at the message of reconciliation, I hope you will join me!
