Doing Right and God’s Will

26 06 2012

We are continuing our series on What is wrong with America’s faith. We have looked at the difference between accepting and receiving Christ and it’s effect on our belief, so today we will explore doing right and God’s will.

Matthew 7:21 tell us it is only those who believe in Christ can know and do the will of his Father in Heaven. Here is where even the best and brightest go wrong, for they believe doing what they think is right is doing God’s will.

How many times do we seek after our own wants and desires, deceiving ourselves because the truth of God’s will is not in us. We choose what is right, based on our perception and comfort level, rather than stepping back to survey the will of God through the life of Christ within us.

Years ago, good men and women across this country agreed with the removal of public prayer and display of 10 commandments, their desire to do what was right in the eyes of men over shadowed the will of God, not realizing the consequences. Today praying in school and the display of the 10 commandments can get you in a great deal of trouble if they are done in the wrong place.

We must accept that doing right in America and doing the will of God are no longer the same thing.

Romans 13:8-10 8 Owe nothing to any one except mutual love; for he who loves his fellow man has satisfied the demands of Law. 9 For the precepts, “Thou shalt not commit adultery,” “Thou shalt do no murder,” “Thou shalt not steal,” “Thou shalt not covet,” and all other precepts, are summed up in this one command, “Thou shalt love thy fellow man as much as thou lovest thyself.” 10 Love avoids doing any wrong to one’s fellow man, and is therefore complete obedience to Law.

What is the greatest commandment of Jesus? Deuteronomy 6:5 5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. Matthew 22:36-38 35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
