Covenant Transition

23 10 2012

In the midst of a birthing transition as the years pass by and we wait for the birthing transition to finish, there will be moments because the vision is so big and our Lord knows our needs, he may establish an extra measure of commitment and connection between us and himself. Covenants are always found early and often before the birthing process happens!

We see in Genesis 15 the interaction between Abram who was reflecting upon the truth he still had no heir.

“Then the LORD took Abram outside and said, ‘Look at the sky and see if you can count the stars. That’s how many descendants you will have’.”

Gen 15:5

How would you respond to these words spoken by the Lord? We see in verse 6 Abram believed. We have to believe God as we take the little steps for they lead to the larger steps which in Abram’s case resulted in the birth of the nation of Israel.

Genesis 16 reveals a major danger in a covenant transition which is to take matters into our own hands as Abram and Sarai did, trying to bring about the will of God. The result was Ishmael the son of Hagar who was not the chosen heir God intended. His birth and his heirs have been a thorn in the side of Israel since before the birth of Isaac, God’s chosen heir, which continuing still today.

They also remind us how hard it is to live in the season of transition, so give yourself a break, we all make mistakes as we walk through transition.
