Speaking to Non-Believers

15 10 2013

ElishaWe are in a series: A Life like Elisha. His life teaches us many lessons. The first was how to respond to new assignment when they come. To begin the series go to September 28, responding to New Assignments. The second was how to have undivided commitment, the third how to embrace transition with expectation and today we are looking at how to speak to non-believers through the story of Elisha and the three kings.

“As surely as the LORD Almighty lives, whom I serve, if I did not have respect for the presence of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, I would not pay any attention to you.”

2Kings 3:14

Elisha’s life of obedience to God his faith is miraculous to me. He was a man who was obedience in every circumstance, even when face to face with the Kings of Israel, Judah and Edom. He told them to first to go back to their god, yet it was God’s intention that he give them wise counsel.  In these days we must be willing to speak to anyone who seeks out our counsel, even if they are not Christian.

Elisha asks for the harpist to play, giving him time to worship, to pray and allow the Lord to reveal His plan. Elisha speaks what he hears from God not what the Kings hoped to hear, “God will provide water for you, your cattle and animals to drink”, yet in this simple miracle of provision of pools of water, the ground work for victory was won.

We will never know how many of those men in seeing God’s provision of water which lead to a mighty victory; put their trust in Him for the rest of their lives.

It is a wonderful reminder no matter who we are speaking to, to speak only those words of God for they will be life-giving and life-sustaining even if they don’t make much sense to us here on earth.
