Leadership with Integrity

22 10 2013

ElishaWe are in a series: A Life like Elisha. His life teaches us many lessons. To begin the series go to September 28, responding to New Assignments. Today we look at how important it is to be in tune spiritually with those around us as well as with our God. Elisha understood the importance of being in tune with those who served around him because what they did would impact his service to the Lord.

In this story found in 2 Kings 5 we learn of Gehazi, one of Elisha’s servants, who went behind Elisha’s back to request a small amount of the gifts Elisha had declined after Naaman was healed.

Elisha upon Gehazi’s return speaks these words: Leadership

“Was not my spirit with you when the man got down from his chariot to meet you?

2Ki 5:26

Elisha knew what Gehazi had done, and so he confronted him. We do not know what would have happened had Gehazi been honest about where he had been and what he had done. We do know that because of what he did, including his lie, leprosy clung to him and his descendants forever.

God holds us accountable for those things we do and those in any form of leadership must be as in tune as Elisha was with the sin in the camp. No matter if our leadership is at home as a parent, at work or in any branch of ministry, the sin must be dealt so you are freed to stand before God with integrity.
