Power of the Spoken Word

29 10 2013

ElishaWe are in a series: A Life like Elisha. His life teaches us many lessons. To begin this series go to September 28, Responding to New Assignments. Last time we look at how God using Elisha’s prophetic gift to protect and guide his King.  Today we look at the humanness of Elisha, though a mighty prophet he was still just a man.

Many know the story of Elisha’s first miracle of healing the water in 2 Kings chapter  2 but in reading this chapter to the end we also see the humanness of this great prophet of God as he chose to curse the boys who were taunting him.taunting boys

He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys.

2Ki 2:24

It was Elisha’s choice to curse the boys, and it is out of our humanness that we choose to curse rather than endure. We need to realize when we choose to curse someone, powerful things can and do happen, for which we may one day have regrets.

Chose your words wisely as Christ did who endured the cross and its shame to bring about the greater glory of God’s plans and purposes!
