Tenacious Faith!

2 11 2013

ElishaWe are in a series: A Life like Elisha. His life teaches us many lessons. To begin this series go to September 28, Responding to New Assignments. Last time we look at the humanness of Elisha, though a mighty prophet he was still just a man. Today we see the tenacious faith of Elisha as we explore 2 Kings 4.

The story begins as a Shunammite woman provides a room to Elisha to use whenever he needs it. Elisha asks what he could do for her and she told him, she was without a child. Elisha then prophesied she would hold a son in a year which came to pass.blue scarfed woman

Several years later the Shunammite’s son mysteriously dies, pressing the woman into action, going to Elisha for help. Elisha is surprised by this turn of events and sends his servant to lay his staff upon the child. When that doesn’t work, he comes and lies upon the child, warming but not reviving him.

“Elisha turned away and walked back and forth in the room and then got on the bed and stretched out on him once more. The boy sneezed seven times and opened his eyes.”

2Ki 4:35

Neither the Shunammite woman nor Elisha questioned that God would heal this child and as Elisha walked back and forth, God gives him the tenacity to take the final steps of faith to see this child come back to life.

You and I need to walk out our faith with the tenacity of Elisha that what God intends might come about according to his timing!
