Temptation and the Kingdom of Heaven

24 11 2016

changeToday we are talking about temptation and Kingdom of Heaven through James 1:13 – 15. Temptation is all around us, I was tempted as I look at writing this post just to let it slide another week, as I had done for months, I didn’t so here we are looking tempation.

No one being tempted should say, “I am being tempted by God.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, and God himself tempts no one.  Rather, each person is being tempted whenever he is being dragged off and enticed by the bait of his own desire.  Then, having conceived, the desire gives birth to sin; and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death.  Don’t delude yourselves, my dear brothers.  James 1:13-15

Webster’s dictionary defines temptation: to entice to do wrong by promise of pleasure or gain. So temptation is an action taken to engage our will (our right to choose) to act in a self gratifying way resulting in wrong choices and short-term gain and for many long-term guilt and shame.

If we look at my temptation not to write this post, the temptation was to spend time with my husband watching TV or choose to come temptationinto my cold office on Thanksgiving morning and press into God believing something of value would result. As I pondered my choice I realized not to go into my office would have put off the inevitable, sitting down and writing about temptation, something everyone knows about, but seldom talks about because it brings with it personal responsibility, and who wants that on Thanksgiving!

Temptation is a natural part of being human as we exercise our right to choose. We are all going to make good choices and resisting temptation while on other days we will be overcome by temptation and make those dreaded bad choices we wish we hadn’t made. Praise God for Yeshua who made the choice to die, taking away the sins of the world!

Join me next time as we delve into James 1:13, looking at this truth, God doesn’t tempt us.

Millie

Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is Near!

29 07 2016

10606784_sWe are in a new series about the Kingdom of Heaven. Today we are looking at how repentance is key to the kingdom of heaven coming near!

Matthew writes: From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”

Matthew 4:17

Let’s set the stage, in the beginning of chapter 4 Yeshua had been tempted by Satan in the desert, then upon his return he learned of John the Baptist jailing. As a man, think of all the emotions he was feeling. He did the best thing, and stepped away.

Yeshua could have chosen to be mad at man, mad at God or mad at Satan. He chose to do12490293_s none of the above. Yeshua knew he had to stay focused. We forget that, choosing instead to walk into anger and away from the kingdom of Heaven, as we break relationship with  our God. Remembering even righteous anger turns into sinful behavior.

I say all this because in these days people (including those who are believers) are going to do things which you have the right to be angry about, because they wronged you, or hurt someone you care about.

It is not if we will get angry, for even Yeshua revealed his anger toward the money changers in the temple. But when your anger turns into sinful behavior, repent and walk back into relationship with God for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!

Join me next time when we look at the Kingdom of Heaven from Matthew 5:3 and the poor in spirit

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

Standing on Recovering!

27 09 2011

Recently I came home from my vacation with a pinched nerve. It has been a slow process, Step by step I am getting better, less numbness every day. I am so thankful and happy.

Yet I am deeply saddened by the doctors, some without seeing me are saying I have a pinched nerve but it is complicated by my condition (MS) so in their voices they have little hope. I can see they don’t expect me to get better, my doctor’s nurse said if you aren’t getting better by Friday we want to see you, so we better make you an appointment.

I know that we live in a fallen world, but that fallen world does not have to define us, much like the MS condition my body is labeled with. You and I can look and say the devil has done this, but I know I have been in a fight for my life with my own soul not to give up and say woe is me or get angry at the doctors who can’t see beyond the MS label they have given me.

I refuse to give up or hold anger toward my doctors, because all things work together for good for those who know Jesus and are called according to his purpose, so I sent word to my prayer partners and asked them to pray in agreement with me for my soul to line up with Jesus!

It doesn’t matter why this happened, but it does matter what I focus on during my time of recovery! Yes, I said recovery, because I know I will be just fine!

God has great things in the future for each of us and we can’t allow today to get in the way!

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

Having a Strong Heart Relationship with God Part 4

5 07 2011

The depth of love and its attributes are key to having a strong heart relationship with God. Looking once again at 1 Corinthians 13:4 – 8

Love is patient, love is kind.

It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails.

Last time we look at envy, boasting and pride, learning how love overcome feelings of envy, thoughts of boasting and moments of pride and affording us with a strong heart relationship with God.

Now we have come to the key turning point in love for as we keep no record of wrongs we release ourselves from being rude, self-seeking and easily angered enabling ourselves to walk in the depths of a strong heart relationship with God like our savior Jesus Christ.

Have you ever thought about why you are rude, often times it is because of being self focused or feeling someone else has wronged you. I know for me if love is the driving force in my day, I focus on God’s plans and purposes and I am not easily angered and I keep no record of wrongs.

So when I am rude to others, I know I am focused on myself and I must change my actions quickly because that is a sure sign that I am walking in opposition to a strong heart relationship with God. If I don’t stop then I can become trapped by keeping records of those who wronged me, falling victim to my own anger which can so easily follow.

What does this change of actions look like? It begins by asking God’s forgiveness for being self-seeking and rude to others and receiving His love in return. When I take this simple step, I find myself no longer rude, self-seeking or angry, and to my surprise joy wells up, loosening me from keeping a record of wrongs. Only then I am ready to enter back into a strong heart relationship with God, which allows me to do the right thing with the right motives, and ask for man’s forgiveness even if he can’t forgive.

Join me next time as we talk about not delighting in evil, rejoicing with truth and having a strong heart relationship with God.

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Mildred

Calling Evil Good

11 06 2011

This prayer by Billy Graham has so impacted my life that I am posting it for you.  This prayer is at the very least a good reminder of how easily you and I as Christians can fall into the trap of calling evil good and at its best we will take it to heart, confessing, repenting and asking God’s forgiveness, changing the course of our lives so we never call evil good ever again. Thanks Billy for leading us into righteousness once again!

***************************

Billy Graham’s Prayer for Our Nation 5/2011

THIS MAN SURE HAS A GOOD VIEW OF WHAT’S HAPPENING TO OUR COUNTRY!

Heavenly Father,

We come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance.  We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that is exactly what we have done.  We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.

We have exploited the poor

and called it the lottery.

We have rewarded laziness

and called it welfare.

We have killed our unborn

and called it choice.

We have shot abortionists

and called it justifiable.

We have neglected to discipline our children

and called it building self-esteem.

We have abused power

and called it politics.

We have coveted our neighbor’s possessions

and called it ambition.

We have polluted the air with profanity

and pornography and called it freedom of expression.

We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers

and called it enlightenment.

Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Amen!

*****************

As we close this post, think about those areas you have called evil good, and confess, repent and ask for forgiveness today!

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Mildred

Don’t be like a Computer – Forgive!

7 06 2011

Recently I learned a lesson on forgiveness while working on my computer. I had been working on blogs for a couple of hours and before beginning that process I was journaling on my computer.

I carefully closed all the blogs and saved them before turning off the computer, but when I got to my journal and the final window, I forgot I hadn’t saved it and said not to saving changes, losing all that I had written.

In the past I would have been heart-broken and would have tried to re-construct what I had written. It has been a process to realize I just have to let it go, but that morning it was different as I realized that computers are like people who can’t forgive.

Computers for the average person aren’t very forgiving.

One key stroke and all can be lost.

What a blessing it is when you and I forgive. Forgiveness isn’t a do over, rather it is, saying,  “I know you are human and you make mistakes just like me.” Some times forgiving is simple, like if a toddler doesn’t say, “excuse me” when he/she push their way in the middle of your conversation, while other times, like when your boss forgets your human, it is more of a challenge to forgive.

That morning, I had to choose to forgive myself for being human and leave it at that, what about you?

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Mildred

Taking Responsiblity for Our Actions

19 04 2011

Last time we talked about taking responsibility for our faith, today we are going to talk about taking responsibility for our actions. God knew man would make the choice to sin, and so He made a way back for us through Jesus Christ our savior.

I wonder these days if it doesn’t grieve God more that we don’t own up to our actions lead to sin, than the fact that we sin in the first place.

I know as a parent when my children did something wrong, which I expected to happen from time to time, what disappointed me the most was when they didn’t take responsibility for their actions, because I knew without that, they couldn’t mature and were destined to repeat the action over and over again.

Taking responsibility for our sin by confessing and repenting of it breaks the cycle of sin, allowing us to learn, grow and mature. And we are reconciled with God by our confession because Jesus paid the price for our sin so we become the men and women God create us to be.

The next time you sin (which we have to expect will happen) quickly turn to God and take responsibility for your actions, whether they were in word, thought or deed.

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Mildred
