Transition: Believe it or NOT part 2 – Joseph

29 06 2017

Transition

In part one of our series on transition we looked at the Mary the mother of Jesus. Today we will be looking at the transition of Joseph found in Matthew 1:18 – 25 as he heard the news of becoming the father of Jesus.

Setting the scene, Joseph like many men was a black and white thinker. God understands men who are all about action, they want the bottom line and so Joseph’s transition begins with the bottom line, Mary is pregnant.

Joseph being a righteous man and knowing Mary was with child through the Holy Spirit, engaged his black and white thinking and was going to divorce her quietly.

Until he too was visited by an angel, telling him “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife…” As the angel explained what was going on and the why’s of this miraculous pregnancy Joseph came into agreement with the will of God.

Praise God for the way men think, for it gave Joseph the ability to wake up from the dream and stop reacting, choosing instead to obey God.  Scripture records Joseph woke from the dream and took Mary as his wife, having no union with her until after the birth of their son who he named Jesus as the angel had instructed him.

As you walk through transition, remember even if you are a black and white thinker, God will bring you through, just seek him!

Join me next time for part three of transition, the disciples.

Blessings & Complete Joy!

Millie

How to MOVE in the new season, part 3

11 03 2016

moveThis is the third post in our series How to MOVE in this new season.  Today we are unpacking the O for obedient in our acrostic MOVE.

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

2Co 10:5

Obedient is the choice we make whether to submit to control or guidance.

The student makes the choice when he/she walks into a classroom whether to submit to their teacher control and guidance, just as a child chooses to respond obediently to the correction/control of a loving parent.

Obedience is the ultimate choice. As a nation we have chosen to remove the 10 commandments from our public spaces. We set ourselves, our wants, our hopes and our desires against the knowledge of God and abandoning God as we refuse tofather daughter take our thought life captive, resulting in lives which are pulled to and fro by every passing wind.

Obedience to Christ in this season will bring us to a higher level of functionality, as we  embrace our Lord who is a good God, rather than revolting against the vindictive God once preached from pulpits across our nation and around the world in hopes to control people to walk obediently with their maker.

To be obedient to Yeshua (Christ) is a conscious choice, one I embrace with both hands, my whole heart and every brain cell I have! I know as I take every thought captive God will sift my thought life, purifying my motives so I can function to a higher level in this season!

Join me next time when unpack the next key to moving in the new season, V for victory.

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

How to MOVE in the new season!

26 02 2016

moveWe are beginning a new series called “How to MOVE in this new season”. We will be using the acrostic MOVE to explain several important aspects of our movement in this season.

To Move is to go continuously from one point to another!

We take as our inspiration from these two verses:

And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees

and be careful to keep my laws.

Eze 36:27

“For in him we live and move and have our being.”

As some of your own poets have said, “We are his offspring.”

Act 17:28

We have to watch as we move forward in this season because there is so much that is passing by, whether it is the weekly services, maybe another conference or something else, we have to be aware of when and how to move so we stay in harmony with the plans and purposes of God!

We have to understand and know our motives; we have to be obedient to God. We have to walk with virtue and allow God to equip us, because without His equipping us, we might find ourselves off course or stranded in the middle of the night!

Join me next time as we look at the M in move, Motives!

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

God’s Provision, our sacrifice

14 06 2011

The high places group I lead is taking a journey which has required something we have never really thought about as a group, monetary provision.

So often when it comes to money we feel we are sacrificing to give to our church and or to our family, because we are under the false impression that the money belongs to us since we “earned” it, we can play god and give.

If we look at scripture we see a very different story.  Our God will provide for our needs according to His riches in glory Philippians 4:19. What does that mean? If we allow God to, He will open the doors for us widely as we are willing to walk in His will. Granted God’s provision isn’t always monetary, sometimes it is emotion, physical or spiritual which can far out ways the comfort of any monetary provision.

Finishing up the  financial report I saw God’s provision and our need. Before our prep-trip a wonderful woman gave $40 to cover our pre-trip expenses which came to only $28, giving us excess to put toward the group trip. As I looked at what has been given and projecting our costs, we still needed $74.

How was I going to respond to this situation, I could have run to the bank and played god, giving the 74 dollars, or I could watch the Lord open the doors of His provision and provide for our needs. The latter requires sacrifice and trust, for I would have to let go of my need to be the hero (the sacrifice), and choose to rest (and trust) in the provision of God!

Only God knows how the last $74 dollars will be provided, but I am doing my part, for I let go of the need to be god, choosing instead to rest in the provision of God!

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Mildred

PS – 5 hours after writing this post, I got a call telling me and a check for $74 dollars was in the mail and we have three weeks before our trip! God’s provision is worth our sacrifice!

Closing the Spiritual Open Door

25 09 2010

While on the last  trip to see our children I left a bag with my pillow and my exercise disk in the hotel room. This seems very innocent, but what happened later revealed truths about spiritual warfare.

Opening the trunk at our final destination, we discovered I had left the  bag and called the hotel, they told me they  hadn’t found my bag. but I could make a lost bag report on our return trip , if I wanted.

Over the years I have left several things and rushed back within minutes to find them, but this time I couldn’t since we had already traveled 6 hours to our new hotel.

While in our new hotel, I kept hitting  the corner of the bed frame with my left calf. Our room was small, but that is no excuse. At that point some people might have turned to the enemy and told him to get out, but I have watched so many people give the enemy power and ground he really didn’t own and knew if I was just more careful, I wouldn’t get a big bruise? I went on to hit myself at least 7 times more times over the course of the 5 days we were there.

On our way home we stayed at the first hotel, so I did make the lost bag report and grumbled all the way to our  hotel room. The next morning we went out and had breakfast leaving the sign for the maid to clean on our room as we had done many times before. When I returned my catheter was gone, which got me thinking. We had stayed in this hotel many times on the way to see our kids and never had anything been disturbed in the bathroom, so why had this happened.

There must be a door open in the spirit somewhere, for twice I had lost things at this hotel. But what do I do? I could go speak to people, which I had, accomplishing nothing or I could go to the Lord confessing my sin and be cleansed of all unrighteousness, stop the enemy from taking precious ground!

I didn’t need to confess leaving the bag which was simply an accident, but I did need to confess not listening to the Lord, when he prompted me to ask Steve to look around our room before we left, because I  didn’t. Then I confessed being upset about losing the content of my bag and  about the things I had said to my husband about the hotel. These three things had given an open door to the enemy.

Before this time of confession, I had been feeling very bad about the hotel and about where we stayed on our trip, but after confessing my attitudes and acts (and lack of action), I felt wonderful and went on to have fun with my husband. This single action really made a difference.

I have to tell you weeks later, the hotel never did find my bag, but two wonderful things have happened. First my bruise, which should have taken weeks to heal, was gone almost before it appeared and I haven’t miss placed anything since. To God be the Glory!

God Calls Us to be Prepared

18 09 2010

Recently I preparing to do a radio program alone, something I hadn’t done before, and with joy and went up to the radio station, but when I got there the group which hadn’t been showing up for several months showed up.

I rejoiced the group was there, so after affirming and praying with them I left. Driving down from the radio station I found myself sad that I wasn’t doing the program. I had left 5 people to do the program and they surely didn’t need me, yet I was wrestling. Had I heard God, and did I really need to prepare?

Looking at my motives and listening to God I realized when I prepared the material if I had known the group was coming I wouldn’t have gotten so prepared and yielded myself to be willing to step out where I had never gone before. Finally this morning I did and was ready, so my questioning turned into rejoicing as I realized I had done exactly what God was calling me to do. Step out of my comfort zone.

One day in the future, I will be called to do a program all by myself and I rejoice knowing I will be prepared emotionally as well as I am physically to do it.

I went to the gym an hour early, giving me time to unwind and to be mentally prepared for the rest of the day. God is so great because I used the extra time to run by and drop off the last of the retreat stuff to my friend before church.

So the next time you do all to prepare and then find you aren’t called up to bat, rejoice that when you are called up to bat, you will be ready!

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Mildred

Precious Cornerstone

6 07 2010

We are in the series of the seven precious things found in 1st and 2nd Peter. Last time we looked at the precious blood of Christ and its part of God’s plan and purposes for our lives. Today we are looking at the precious cornerstone.

“You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor. And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God. As the Scriptures say, I am placing a cornerstone in Jerusalem… “                                  1 Peter 2:4-6

Christians around the world agree with in this statement, Christ is the precious cornerstone. Yet do we really live it out, have we joined with Christ in becoming the living stones used in God’s spiritual temple? Our lives often reveal the need for a savior, rather than revealing the miraculous power of Christ for our sins go ever before us, whether they are purposeful or thoughtless sin.

Just this week, I allowed several young teens to lead me down the path of making a bad decision, when I purchased fireworks for them. It seemed so innocent, and then later, I regretted the choice, for I knew it was a wrong. I wasn’t a living stone in God’s temple when I made that decision. It was easier to please man, than doing the hard thing for Christ.

I don’t do the big sins, but it is these little thoughtless sins that really cause me to question; is it possible to really become the living stones, joining Christ the cornerstone of the spiritual temple of God? The answer is simple, yes for I am forgiven by the shed blood of Christ.

The problem is when little sins become a habit, like choosing to run the yellow lights because we are in a hurry. The next time you come to a yellow light you press through, and find yourself in an accident. Our choices bring freedom, to be the living stone, or they bring bondage for sin causes us question our ability to be what God created us to be. Applying this to my choice to buy fireworks, next time I will choose to say no and suggest they get a parent to buy for them.

This scripture has encouraged me to think before I thoughtlessly act, for I value both Christ the cornerstone and God’s call to join him in becoming a living stone in His spiritual temple.

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Mildred
