Temptation and the Kingdom of Heaven

24 11 2016

changeToday we are talking about temptation and Kingdom of Heaven through James 1:13 – 15. Temptation is all around us, I was tempted as I look at writing this post just to let it slide another week, as I had done for months, I didn’t so here we are looking tempation.

No one being tempted should say, “I am being tempted by God.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, and God himself tempts no one.  Rather, each person is being tempted whenever he is being dragged off and enticed by the bait of his own desire.  Then, having conceived, the desire gives birth to sin; and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death.  Don’t delude yourselves, my dear brothers.  James 1:13-15

Webster’s dictionary defines temptation: to entice to do wrong by promise of pleasure or gain. So temptation is an action taken to engage our will (our right to choose) to act in a self gratifying way resulting in wrong choices and short-term gain and for many long-term guilt and shame.

If we look at my temptation not to write this post, the temptation was to spend time with my husband watching TV or choose to come temptationinto my cold office on Thanksgiving morning and press into God believing something of value would result. As I pondered my choice I realized not to go into my office would have put off the inevitable, sitting down and writing about temptation, something everyone knows about, but seldom talks about because it brings with it personal responsibility, and who wants that on Thanksgiving!

Temptation is a natural part of being human as we exercise our right to choose. We are all going to make good choices and resisting temptation while on other days we will be overcome by temptation and make those dreaded bad choices we wish we hadn’t made. Praise God for Yeshua who made the choice to die, taking away the sins of the world!

Join me next time as we delve into James 1:13, looking at this truth, God doesn’t tempt us.

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

Surprise – Long Time NO See!

17 11 2016

changeFor some of you who have been with me for a while you have asked, have I quit blogging. I never quit, rather I was undergoing some changes and writing took an unexpected turn.

I lost a close friend in May 2016 who died unexpectedly from pneumonia. She was a key part of Complete Joy Ministries. When she died everything in the ministry fell upon my shoulders. It was a tough transition and I am glad to say our ministry is coming through to the other side. I am stronger, I am more committed to the work of the ministry to equip the saints of Yeshua to do the works of service Yahweh has prepared them to do.

As I come back to blogging I am not picking up where I left off with the Kingdom of Heaven and righteousness but speaking instead to where we are today in James 1:13. We are talking about change, temptation and the Kingdom of Heaven! We have a new president and we are in a new season. Here in the USA we are tempted to walk into the downward spiral of a country who walked much like I did into unexpected change.

James 1:13 No one being tempted should say, “I am being tempted by God.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, and God himself tempts no one. 14 Rather, each person is being tempted whenever he is being dragged off and enticed by the bait of his own desire. 15 Then, having conceived, the desire gives birth to sin; and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death. 16 Don’t delude yourselves, my dear brothers.

We are often tempted to do one thing or another. Join me next time when we take up the conversation on change, temptation and the Kingdom of Heaven!

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

Fault verses Consequences

25 02 2012

Humans naturally believe God’s unconditional love should negate consequences. When in reality unconditional love is to love without finding fault, which has nothing to do with consequences.

Fault in this context is an intellectual imperfection or impairment while a consequence is a conclusion resulting from reason or argument. They are two very different things.

Simply put, fault is the human condition while consequence is the result of human action.

Because of James 1:5 we know we can ask God without him finding fault, this is part of His unconditional love, he love us in spite of our human condition. When we understand this we can begin to untangle our sin driven belief that God’s love and the death of Christ, negates consequences here on earth.

Clearly every breath of life reveals that the Love of God and the death of Christ were never meant to negate consequences because the Love of God established choice and it is that choice which brings consequences.

We must not fault, distrust or doubt God because of our choices and there consequences.

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

Believing God will Answer

21 02 2012

Last time we talked about asking God. So when we have gotten up the courage to ask God, there is one more thing God asks us to do, believe and not doubt. We must believe he will answer us. Looking once again at James 1

“But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.”  James 1:6-7

To believe is to have a firm conviction. When it come to asking God, to believe means we have a firm conviction that he will answer. How firm is your conviction in God’s willingness to answer?

We must remember just as God’s love is unconditional, His willingness to answer is as well. When we doubt God will answer often we don’t believe God really loves and cares for us. Many Christians get mixed up when bad things happen thinking it is because God doesn’t love them.

When we doubt, we are tossed about emotionally and so we are like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. Our emotions left unchecked, often go where they have always gone, rather that having a firm conviction that even if the answer isn’t what we want to hear, God will answer us. Suddenly when we take this stand we are once again on dry ground with our eyes on our God, which allows us to be focused and able to hear from God.

To help us understand God’s unconditional love we need to understand fault vs. consequence, so join me next time.

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

Can trials really be pure joy?

4 02 2012

Today we are going to talk about why trials are pure joy.

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.” James 1:2-3

To understand why trials are pure joy, first we must to understand what trials are. The word trial comes from the word try. The meaning of try: to pick out, to sift, another definition is to fit or finish with accuracy. My favorite is to purify, or refine, because these words help us to understand what the Lord is trying to tell us here in James 1.

Trials don’t come into our lives to frustrate us, rather they come to purify and refine us so as we become purified and refined, we are proficient at what we are trying to do,  and like the seasoned athlete who crosses the finish line tired but with pure joy for he has finished the race well!

Trying, i.e. trials are always in the end a good thing. Years ago, I realized that trying is another word for learning.  Learning to do new things (trials) help us to stay young and so just as with my early years of blogging, which were tough times hoping someone would read my thoughts, now blogging has turned into pure joy! I have learned the secrets through my trials to blog for it isn’t about getting it right, rather it is about sharing from my heart what the Lord is showing me.

Join me next time as we look at James chapter 1 and remember…

Trials product pure joy when we see them as learning opportunities,

so enjoy the journey!

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

Inspired to Stand Firm!

31 01 2012

As we bring these thoughts about standing firm in 2012 to a close for now I want to remind you of something profound my pastor said.

God brings inspiration while satan bring temptation.

“When tempted, no one should say, ‘God is tempting me.’ For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.” James 1:13-15

The temptation to stop waiting and standing firm doesn’t come from God, each one is tempted when by his own desires, allowing themselves to be dragged away. You and I have to remember that to stand firm we must also stand against our own desires as well as the desires of the enemy.

Early in this first chapter of James he tells us that perseverance must finish it work of bringing us into maturity! Your struggle to stand firm is never in vain, for maturity takes time and God knows you are worth it! That same passage tells us if you lack wisdom you should ask God and he gives generously to all without fault. This verse comforts me so, read more of James chapter 1 and be inspired to stand!

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie
