Meaning of a Savior – part 2

13 11 2015

Is 9Last time we began the series, Meaning of a Savior and today we are going to unpack Isaiah 9:6 first phrase by phrase, then word by word as we look at Yeshua (Jesus) and who he is!

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Isa 9:6

We are tempted as we unpack this verse to overlook the first couple of phrases to get to the meat. Isaiah knew the importance of these first phrases so let’s unpack them too!

“For to us a child is born”, this first phase tells us several things about our savior. First, our savior is ours! We need to make our savior personal. The second is that our savior is real, because he was born just like you and I were, he wasn’tBaby beamed off of some space ship, sorry star trek fans. But he wasn’t. He was born in a manger. He lived the life of a child, he had dirty diapers and had to learn to walk and to talk. He had to deal with bullies and even being lost as a child.

This often overlook phrase reminds us our savior is real, as real as the fingers that are typing these words and your eyes that are reading this post. Our Savior, your savior and my savior, he is real. Let us rejoice as we meditate on the meaning of our savior, for he is indeed real and not some fictional character in a juice novel!

Join me next time as we unpack “to us a son is given”

Walking by Faith and Not by Sight!

13 06 2014

9226064_sSo much of our walk in this new season is by faith and not by sight! Recently I was in the NE corner of Oregon leading a group of people to re-establish the cornerstone of Christ. These journeys are always filled with surprises as we walk in faith!

We got to La Grande, Oregon and found out the Highway we hoped to travel the next morning was closed with 15 feet of snow. So as my co-leader put it, we were re-routed!

We got up the next morning having decided to travel up the highway as far as we could and then visit a retreat center owned by friends of one of our Idaho team in the hopes of planting the tree someone had brought! As we traveled, we got lost going up the wrong highway for almost an hour, making us two hours late into Joseph to meet the final group from Idaho. They literally prayed us into Joseph!

After lunch we drove to the Indian cemetery where we prayed and then traveled on to the retreat center. As we got there it was pure joy to finally be somewhere we could worship and pray. Everyone anticipating planting our tree.

Little did we know the blessings God had in store for us as the couple who owned the retreat center welcomed us with open arms even having two places ready for trees to be planted! What a blessing we felt as they joined us in the chapel for a time of worship and prayer. It was then I began to cry as I remembered the Lord’s words, “you are to go to retreat center in the NE corner of Oregon” and here we were!

What a sweet time it is when we walk by faith and not by sight!

Blessings and Complete Joy,
Millie

Following the Will of God

10 08 2013

Re-establishing the Cornerstone of ChristI have been working with a team to re-establish the cornerstone of Christ in Oregon. We have traveled to the SW corner so far, and we have 3 corners to go. When we went to the SW corner we all knew we needed to go back and finish the assignment and yet with two weeks to go some have made other plans so the team and the trip has fallen apart., leaving the assignment unfinished.

When we are left with an assignment unfinished we have a choice how we respond. Sometimes, we are supposed to go back and finish the assignment, while other time we must be willing to allow what was done to be good enough. Taking this second option, allowing what was done to be good enough is sometimes the toughest thing, because we have to wrestle with leaving the rest of the assignment to the Lord.

We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, those whom he has called according to his plan.

Rom 8:28

When you have to leave an assignment unfinished, you must put your faith in God and praise him for what has been accomplished, so I have made the choice to trust the Lord to finish the work in His timing as I praise the Lord for the re-establishment of the Cornerstone of Christ is the SW corner of Oregon!

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

Candle Stick lesson #1 – Works of Man

29 05 2012

Last time I shared about buying the glass candle sticks; when I brought them home  I found myself questioning if I had heard the Lord’s still small voice. I had so much in my office and there was no place to put these beautiful candle sticks so they sat in the box out-of-the-way as I re-arranged my office after trading office furniture with my husband.

Finally as I took time to rest and opened the box to enjoy the candle sticks. I was so sad when I pulled the first one out of the box, for it didn’t have the detail of the picture on the box. In my spirit I turned to God and said, can I take them back, they don’t look anything like the picture. I felt the answer was no and so I learned the first candle stick lesson

What God intends isn’t easily translated into the works of man. We can’t see clearly and lack the expertise of God to create with detail all the plans he has. So as I looked at these candle sticks I realized that when the vision I have in my head of God’s plan doesn’t come to pass with the exact detail I shouldn’t get frustrated, choosing instead to rest and rejoice in Him and His amazing and profound plans.

How many times do we stop because we can’t do it exactly like God, when in reality, like a child we are to do the very best we can, remembering perfection is only in the hand of God.

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

Walking in a New Season

21 06 2011

When thinking of walking in a new season of life, I think of my good friend Sue, who is getting married. She is looking at a new life with both a new husband and a young son, which they will care for and raise. Is she prepared for raising children again? Her three children are grown and now she is taking on the responsibility of both a new marriage and a new son.

I marvel as God weaves this new family together. Sue loves raising boys, so she welcomes this newest challenge of raising her husband’s grandson.

God knows what we need in the new seasons we are entering and we must have more than faith to succeed. We must believe that God will provide all we need. Sue is walking each step believing God will provide all her needs and is doing well.

I rejoice as this couple is committed to spending their lives together. They are not without problems, but they realize that together they can come through life’s challenges to the glory of God. They begin life in their first mission field, their grandson, who needs both a dad in his “Papa” and a mom in my friend Sue. God is giving this young boy something only God knew he needed, a mom to champion his needs and help in equipping him to be the man God intends.

Crying Out to the Lord

4 06 2011

As we close the series on murmuring we are going to end on a bright note. There is a difference between crying out to God, seeking his help and murmuring, grumbling or complaining. Nineteen times the bible records that God’s people cried out to their God, which confirms we are always to cry out to our God, for in our seeking God, He will deliver us. We see this in Exodus when the Israelites cried out to the Lord because of their slavery.

EX 2:23 During that long period, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God. 24 God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. 25 So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them.

God heard Jonah when he cried out in the whale and he will hear us when we cry out.

“In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me. From the depths of the grave I called for help, and you listened to my cry.” JNH 2:1-2

Over the last 20 years of ministry I have cried out to the Lord as I sat ministering to clients and each and every time God heard my cry and He gave me direction in how to effectively minister to the person sitting with me. Often they didn’t even realize that I had no idea where we were going, but I had peace for God always did!

We must never forget the past physically, emotionally, and spiritually provision of the Lord. For in remembering His provision we have the road map of faith to believe rather than choosing to murmur about our current situation.

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Mildred

Righteousness and Integrity

14 05 2011

As we look a final time at entering the gates of righteousness we want to add to our understanding of righteous by looking at integrity in scripture. Proverbs 13:6 tells us:

“Righteousness guards the man of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner.”

What does it mean to be a man of integrity? Integrity has several different definitions in the Webster’s dictionary, some are more familiar than others. We most frequently associate integrity with a moral code, leading some into condemnation, rather than into the reality God is calling a man of integrity into – an unimpaired condition. This definition of integrity is more accurate for a man of integrity, because the death of Christ brings us to that place of having an unimpaired condition.

God created us for righteousness and relationship but we must come in to this relationship with integrity, an unimpaired condition by way of Christ.

Webster’s definition of integrity, an unimpaired condition, adds to our knowledge of living a righteous life. This study into righteousness has changed how I view my relationship with God and I see living a righteous life is possible for it is what God created you and I for.

So no matter how we feel about ourselves, we can walk with joy and confidence through the gates of righteousness and into a life of righteousness.

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Mildred
