Maturity through Obedience

22 05 2015

11087581_sWe are in a series called maturity in our ever shifting atmosphere.  Last time we explored God-given maturity through relationship. Today we explore maturity through obedience in an ever shifting atmosphere.

Webster defines Obedience: to come into compliance with the demands or requests of one in authority. Listen to these words from Proverbs.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5 – 6

God invites us through relationship to trust and obey Him. Without relationship obedience is like an evil task master or an overbearing boss because this obedience is out of fear not relationship. What will get us through these ever shifting times as we await Messiah’s returns is listening to God and trusting him so we come into agreement (obey) him.

Recently God asked a curious thing of me, “not to leave the city limits of Portland, Oregon for a month” and because of our faith challengerelationship I have come into agreement with His request. It is a choice to obey and for me to obey is joy. During this time one friend said “it is like in Acts 1:4 when the disciples were told not to leave Jerusalem”. Another friend said “God is setting you apart”, while my husband and I believed in the beginning it was for my protection. I suspect some if not all of these are true!

Obedience can be tough and for me it has been. I can’t visit my daughters and grandkids who lives outside the city limits of Portland, I missed going to the big NDP event and worst of all I couldn’t get the items I needed to fix my husband’s sweater! Thank God for the internet.

The steps of obedience to God which lead to maturity are always a challenge as much as they can be an adventure, Father make them in this season pure joy!

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

Keys to Faith – Trust

27 06 2014

9226064_sAnother Key to walking by faith and not by sight is trust.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

Pro 3:5-6

A child instinctively trusts their parents. Trust is something deep within us, until it is destroyed by some outside force. Praying ChildIf a parent reveals by their words or actions they can’t be trusted then their child learns to distrust the world around them. As we understand the world around us we begin to let go of trusting the Lord, choosing instead to trust in those things we can touch, taste and feel, rather than the still small voice of the Lord which has been with us since our conception!

As adults we choose who and what we trust. This is what the Psalmist is speaking of when he wrote, “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.” Psa 20:7. David chose for himself and his people Israel to trust in the Lord!

Since the creation of the world mankind has struggled with walking by faith and not by sight. It is in allowing ourselves to trust in the Lord that we walk by the faith. It is in walking by faith that mountains move, changing the world!

Join me next time when we talk about syncing with God!

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

Not Taking Offense – a Key of Transition

25 04 2014

keys in a women's handHow do you handle when someone doesn’t follow through? Do you take offense? One day recently I found myself facing this question, as for three solid hours, one conversation after another I was faced with people who couldn’t follow through with things they had committed to do.

We are in a season where everyone’s lives are in transition. Transition is a good thing as it gives room for new things. I think of it as a time of birthing! The bad part is just as with new birth, the other end of the spectrum is death. As new things are birthing, other things are coming to an end, or dying.

In this season of transition we need to remember, not to take offense. Not everyone recognizes transition, and more over has the skills or know how to navigate grieving and in the process of letting go,  to way for the new. We are so quick to jump into the new things without giving proper time and energy to bring the old things to an end, what I like to call finishing well!

Finishing well is a skill everyone needs to know from the child who is entering pre-school, to the executive on wall street as well as the pastor or leader  in the local church.

Not taking time to finish well, causes us and others to take offense. Taking offense is a natural hurt response, which we must then train our brains to turn to God and ask the question which will re-frame that hurt response. That question is, What are you up to? I am feeling hurt. Turning to God allows us to see what He is up to and protects us from a premature break in relationship.

I know how hard it is to begin a new thing, while struggling to finish another. The amount of emotional and physical energy required is tremendous and because of this drain we must do two things: first allow ourselves more time to physically rest, and second is to take extra time to be alone with God.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

 Proverbs 3:5 – 6

To those who are in transition, I feel your pain. Don’t lose heart, for God is there and will see you through this and every future transition you will ever experience!

Blessings and Complete Joy,
Millie
