Temptation and the Kingdom of Heaven

24 11 2016

changeToday we are talking about temptation and Kingdom of Heaven through James 1:13 – 15. Temptation is all around us, I was tempted as I look at writing this post just to let it slide another week, as I had done for months, I didn’t so here we are looking tempation.

No one being tempted should say, “I am being tempted by God.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, and God himself tempts no one.  Rather, each person is being tempted whenever he is being dragged off and enticed by the bait of his own desire.  Then, having conceived, the desire gives birth to sin; and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death.  Don’t delude yourselves, my dear brothers.  James 1:13-15

Webster’s dictionary defines temptation: to entice to do wrong by promise of pleasure or gain. So temptation is an action taken to engage our will (our right to choose) to act in a self gratifying way resulting in wrong choices and short-term gain and for many long-term guilt and shame.

If we look at my temptation not to write this post, the temptation was to spend time with my husband watching TV or choose to come temptationinto my cold office on Thanksgiving morning and press into God believing something of value would result. As I pondered my choice I realized not to go into my office would have put off the inevitable, sitting down and writing about temptation, something everyone knows about, but seldom talks about because it brings with it personal responsibility, and who wants that on Thanksgiving!

Temptation is a natural part of being human as we exercise our right to choose. We are all going to make good choices and resisting temptation while on other days we will be overcome by temptation and make those dreaded bad choices we wish we hadn’t made. Praise God for Yeshua who made the choice to die, taking away the sins of the world!

Join me next time as we delve into James 1:13, looking at this truth, God doesn’t tempt us.

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

Surprise – Long Time NO See!

17 11 2016

changeFor some of you who have been with me for a while you have asked, have I quit blogging. I never quit, rather I was undergoing some changes and writing took an unexpected turn.

I lost a close friend in May 2016 who died unexpectedly from pneumonia. She was a key part of Complete Joy Ministries. When she died everything in the ministry fell upon my shoulders. It was a tough transition and I am glad to say our ministry is coming through to the other side. I am stronger, I am more committed to the work of the ministry to equip the saints of Yeshua to do the works of service Yahweh has prepared them to do.

As I come back to blogging I am not picking up where I left off with the Kingdom of Heaven and righteousness but speaking instead to where we are today in James 1:13. We are talking about change, temptation and the Kingdom of Heaven! We have a new president and we are in a new season. Here in the USA we are tempted to walk into the downward spiral of a country who walked much like I did into unexpected change.

James 1:13 No one being tempted should say, “I am being tempted by God.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, and God himself tempts no one. 14 Rather, each person is being tempted whenever he is being dragged off and enticed by the bait of his own desire. 15 Then, having conceived, the desire gives birth to sin; and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death. 16 Don’t delude yourselves, my dear brothers.

We are often tempted to do one thing or another. Join me next time when we take up the conversation on change, temptation and the Kingdom of Heaven!

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

Tempter of the Soul of Man

8 12 2012

fallen angelWe are in the midst of a series called Who is the devil really? and today we look at the devil as tempter. We see him as the tempter since man was in the Garden of Eden. But today we look not at the fall of man but through the temptation of Jesus.

And the devil said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command this stone that it become bread. And Jesus answered unto him, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone.

Luke 4:3-4

The devil knew who Jesus was and yet he could not help himself but to try to tempt him. The devil’s ego is great but the righteousness of Jesus stood firm.

When the devil sees the righteousness of God in someone, he has to tempt them. He desires to control the soul for he knows the spirit of man is lost to him for eternity! The mind, will and emotions, also known as the soul of man is the domain of the tempter or so he believes.

Jesus shows us how using scripture brings our soul into alignment with God stopping the tempter dead in hisTemptation of Jesus tracks. It didn’t mean the tempter was vanquished, but he departed for a season.

Temptation is not a constant thing, we are reminded in Luke 4:13. If the temptation was a constant thing we would overcome it and be done. The tempter of the soul of man lives in the shadows, waiting to reveal his temptation at the moment of his greatest advantage, as with Jesus as he came out of the desert.  Jesus overcame as he allowed the righteousness of God to be his sword and his shield.

Oh may we do the same!

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

Unsatisfied!

1 12 2012

fallen angelWe have begun a series called, Who is the devil really? Last time we learned the devil is a world influencer, not a world changer and today we are going to look at why.

“But when Jesus turned and saw the disciples, he corrected Peter. He said to him, ‘Satan, get away from me! You are thinking like everyone else and not like God.'”

Mark 8:33

Have you ever wondered why Jesus said this to Peter. Yes he was correcting him, and this statement startled everyone then as it still does today. Taking a second look at this statement we understand something about the devil which is often missed.

Peter didn’t like who God created Jesus to be and like the devil who didn’t like who he was created to be (notJesus with peter satisfied with being the top angel). The devil’s ambitions got the best of him and sin entered into his being. That is why the devil was the first to sin and as such was thrown down from heaven. Now he wants you and I to lose our place in heaven as well.

The devil has one goal, because he was unsatisfied –  to build a greater kingdom than God.

He does this by testing (tempting) us, Jesus said in Luke 22:31, “the devil has demanded the right to test each one of you” and he is still demanding that right today. These moments of testing can destroy us, or they can make the man Simon into Peter, the Rock of the Church.

We don’t understand why the devil was not destroyed, but in a sinful and dangerous way the devil is still accomplishing God’s plans and purposes for his creation. Therefore we must have faith which overcomes fear and temptation, allowing God’s perfect plans and purposes to be accomplished both in our lives and the world around us.

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie
