Job’s Confession & Repentance – Job 42

15 09 2017

bible_jobThis is the second post in our series on Job 42. Last time we began by setting the stage for Job 42 as we looked at God’s response in Job 40 and 41, revealing the sovereignty of our God. Today we will look at the first part of Job 42, verses 1 – 6, which in many versions is titled “Job’s Confession and Repentance”

Here stands Job in chapter 42 speaking to his sovereign God. In the first verse Job acknowledges no one can oppose the plans and purpose of God. Job my_confession_its_not_what_you_think_217730405 (2)continues the conversation as he confesses he is ignorant in speaking of things he could never understand.  He then continues confessing he did not know God the way he does now. Finally, in verse six Job repents as he sees himself as he truly is, dust and ashes in the face of a sovereign God.

How often do we defend ourselves (as Job did in the earlier chapters) until that moment when our sovereign God gives insight and understanding to what is taking place in our lives? Yes, sometimes it hurts when God speak truth bringing understanding to our situation, so like Job, must choose to confess our ignorant and repent for trying to defend ourselves instead of leaving that job to our sovereign God.

Join me next time as we look at Job’s friends.

Blessings & Complete Joy!

Job and a Sovereign God

8 09 2017

bible_jobThis week’s post begins a three-part series on the final chapter of Job 42.

The book of Job is comprised of 42 chapters recounting the story of the suffering of Job, a righteous man. Just as the final chapter of Job has three parts, Job is joined by three friends and three cycles of debate ensue before God himself enters the picture in chapter 40 as he begins revealing the real issue is not the suffering of a righteous man but the sovereignty of a mighty God. This revelation is where chapter 42 begins.

Job 42 is comprised of three parts. Part 1 is Job’s response to God, part 2 is God’s speaking to Job’s friends and part 3 is Job’s restoration.

We want to look at the two preceding chapters of Job in this first post because God has been talking to Job and helps him understand God is sovereign.

Sovereign by definition is: to have or possess supreme or ultimate power and authority. God has supreme/ultimate power and authority. This is something mankind has wrestled with since our creation. We grumble trying to find reasons for everything. As I look at Texas, some will look and judge its citizens. I cannot, rather I look at a sovereign God who allowed the winds to churn up and the rains to pour down upon the lone star state. I look upon the same sovereign God who limited the hand of Satan in Job’s life, and who is still controlling where the winds blow and rain fall.

Join me in praying for our nation and the natural disasters our nation is currently facing, from wild fires in the West to hurricanes and flooding in the East, then join me next week as we look at Job 42!

Blessings & Complete Joy!

Evil vs. Truth

18 01 2014

21909694_sWe are in a series called What is Love Anyway? To read all of this series on love scroll back to The Beatitudes of Love, beginning on 11/9/2013. We have finished the different words for Love in the bible and now we are looking at the seventh and final hindrances to love, evil.

“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.”

1 Corinthians 13:6

We define evil in its noun form as profound immorality, wickedness, and depravity, esp. when regarded as a supernatural force. It’s other use as an adjective 8621117_s(an attribute), evil is profoundly immoral and malevolent.

We learned earlier in our study of love how God delights in us and so this use of the word delight is important as it is deepens our understanding of the impact of evil. Evil is a very powerful thing. Evil is the direct opposite of truth. We think of good and evil, which are human measures, while God thinks of truth (the quality or state of being true) as the opposite of evil.

My life was one of profound immorality, wickedness, and depravity, growing up in the occult.  It was devoid of love.  As I grew I wanted the truth because I knew “good” people did bad things. Good can masquerade itself like the devil, offering Eve the apple in the garden, while truth brings freedom and it is why I am a Christian today.

“Know the truth and the truth will set you Free.”

John 8:32

Rejoice now and always in the truth, because the truth given in love, brings freedom!

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

Leadership with Integrity

22 10 2013

ElishaWe are in a series: A Life like Elisha. His life teaches us many lessons. To begin the series go to September 28, responding to New Assignments. Today we look at how important it is to be in tune spiritually with those around us as well as with our God. Elisha understood the importance of being in tune with those who served around him because what they did would impact his service to the Lord.

In this story found in 2 Kings 5 we learn of Gehazi, one of Elisha’s servants, who went behind Elisha’s back to request a small amount of the gifts Elisha had declined after Naaman was healed.

Elisha upon Gehazi’s return speaks these words: Leadership

“Was not my spirit with you when the man got down from his chariot to meet you?

2Ki 5:26

Elisha knew what Gehazi had done, and so he confronted him. We do not know what would have happened had Gehazi been honest about where he had been and what he had done. We do know that because of what he did, including his lie, leprosy clung to him and his descendants forever.

God holds us accountable for those things we do and those in any form of leadership must be as in tune as Elisha was with the sin in the camp. No matter if our leadership is at home as a parent, at work or in any branch of ministry, the sin must be dealt so you are freed to stand before God with integrity.

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

Kingdom Keys

25 06 2013

three_legged_tableToday we are finishing our series on  the three legs of Kingdom wisdom, truth and knowledge. We need wisdom, truth and knowledge to function in the Kingdom of God here on earth. As we allow kingdom wisdom, truth and knowledge to be manifest in our lives an amazing thing happens we are activating keys to the kingdom!

“I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

Matthew 16:19

As we allow God to move in us, manifesting kingdom wisdom, walking in kingdom truth and understanding kingdom knowledge we are activating Kingdom principles. One such principle is what we bind on earth shall be bound in heaven and what we loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

God has given us authority upon the earth, and as we walk under his covering and blessings we will see miracles and wonders happen upon the earth.

I think of the CJM office (read my blog post April 6th) and how God spoke truth about both the necessity and the plan He had for it, so walking into agreement with our Lord allowed him to release both his direction and provision for CJM. By allowing yourself to receive and manifest kingdom wisdom, truth and knowledge will indeed bind and loose things here on earth!

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

What is Kingdom Knowledge?

22 06 2013

three_legged_tableLast time we looked at truth, as part of our Kingdom series on wisdom, truth and knowledge and so today we look at the third leg of our kingdom table, knowledge.

The psalmist writes:

“God instructs the nations and gives knowledge to us all.”

Psalm 94:10

A college graduate fresh out of school learns the hard way that knowing and knowledge are two very different things. Webster’s defines knowledge as to understand something with familiarity gained through experience or association.

Let me give you an example from my own life, We have a set of fraternal twins, a boy and girl, who are now in their thirty. Before they were born I read about raising twin, that is knowing. After years of raising our twins my husband and I have the knowledge, having spent time gaining experience to understand how to raise twins.

Now let’s turn a corner to understand kingdom knowledge,  In 2nd Chronicles history record God replying to Solomon: “Solomon, you could have asked me to make you rich or famous or to let you live a long time. Or you could have asked for your enemies to be destroyed. Instead, you asked for wisdom and knowledge to rule my people.”

Kingdom knowledge has a depth, for our understanding of something is founded and filtered through God’s perspective.

Join me next time as we finish our series on Wisdom, Truth and Knowledge!

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie

What is Kingdom Truth?

15 06 2013

three_legged_tableLast time we looked at wisdom, part of our Kingdom series on wisdom, truth and knowledge and so today we look at the second leg of our kingdom table, truth.

The psalmist writes:

“Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior,

and my hope is in you all day long.”

Psalm 25:5

What is kingdom truth? Is it only knowing Jesus or is it so much more? Webster’s dictionary defines truth as the state of being the case: fact.

I believe this is what kingdom truth is, while if we look at man’s truth we see it more as a judgment; an idea that is accepted “as truth”.

Recently a client I was working with re-framed the truth about her family, rather than going with the family line she had grown up with, and as she did she found freedom because kingdom truth sets us free! While the judgments of men bring us under layers of bondage, sin and condemnation.

When we are willing to look from God’s kingdom perspective (remembering wisdom) then we find a greater and profound balance to navigate those judgments the world wants us to buy into. Whether it is Mom and Dad saying “everything is okay”, when it really wasn’t or our society which wants us to buy into gay marriage as marriage equality.

Blessings and Complete Joy,

Millie
