The Love Project

12 03 2014

Here at CJM we are launching the Love Project and I want to share the Love of God with each of you that you might share it with those you love.

If you were sitting right here with me, I would hand you a CD with the Father’s Love Letter on it for you to pop in your CD to listen on your way home or watch on your computer at home. I have been listening to it for over 5 years since a friend brought it to me to play on the radio. It is a tradition to play the Father’s Love Letter every year the week of Valentines Day since.

The Father’s Love Letter is a group of scriptures not exhaustive, but impactful sharing the love the Father has for us. When listened to it touches something very deep inside, I have known people to find healing of their father’s

Father's Love Letter

wounds. Sometimes dad’s were missing, other times because of dad’s emotional distance they never knew they were loved.

God isn’t like our earthly Fathers and yet as we embrace the love of our heavenly Father the pain and hurt caused by our earthly father’s can be healed. The link is: www.fathersloveletter.com/‎ or at the end of the post you can click on FLL quarter fold below and read the letter from your father to you!

God is so funny that way, he does so much more than we could ask for or imagine.

Here is the pdf of the Father’s Love Letter, enjoy! FLL quarter fold it is used by permission!

What is Love Anyway?

22 01 2014

21909694_sAs we finish this series What is Love Anyway, looking at love and its hindrances. I want to focus on these words in 1 Corinthians 13 concerning love…

Love is patient, love is kind.

It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking,

it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

These are my favorite words concerning love…8785800_s

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails.

1 Corinthians 13:4 – 8

We will never love perfectly; we must simply do our best and let God take care of the rest. May each of us love our neighbor as we love ourselves, asking God to help us love ourselves as He first loved us!

Evil vs. Truth

18 01 2014

21909694_sWe are in a series called What is Love Anyway? To read all of this series on love scroll back to The Beatitudes of Love, beginning on 11/9/2013. We have finished the different words for Love in the bible and now we are looking at the seventh and final hindrances to love, evil.

“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.”

1 Corinthians 13:6

We define evil in its noun form as profound immorality, wickedness, and depravity, esp. when regarded as a supernatural force. It’s other use as an adjective 8621117_s(an attribute), evil is profoundly immoral and malevolent.

We learned earlier in our study of love how God delights in us and so this use of the word delight is important as it is deepens our understanding of the impact of evil. Evil is a very powerful thing. Evil is the direct opposite of truth. We think of good and evil, which are human measures, while God thinks of truth (the quality or state of being true) as the opposite of evil.

My life was one of profound immorality, wickedness, and depravity, growing up in the occult.  It was devoid of love.  As I grew I wanted the truth because I knew “good” people did bad things. Good can masquerade itself like the devil, offering Eve the apple in the garden, while truth brings freedom and it is why I am a Christian today.

“Know the truth and the truth will set you Free.”

John 8:32

Rejoice now and always in the truth, because the truth given in love, brings freedom!

Millie

Anger and its Foothold

15 01 2014

21909694_sWe are in a series called What is Love Anyway? To read all of this series on love scroll back to The Beatitudes of Love, beginning on 11/9/2013. We have finished the different words for Love in the bible and now we are looking at the sixth hindrances to love, anger.

Love, “It is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs.”

1 Cor 13:5

We define the word anger as a strong feeling of annoyance, displeasure, or hostility. In and of itself anger is not sinful, because20309004_s over and over again we read about God being angry with the Israelites. Ephesians 4:26 tells us “In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.” This warns us of what will happen if we do not let go of our anger in a timely manner, we give the devil a foothold.

Looking back at 1 Corinthians 13:5 we see the foothold of anger is in keeping a record of wrongs. How often with our family, our friends, and even our spouse, do we keep a long running list of their wrongs.

I have a choice whether I keep a record of how many times my husband forgets the ketchup when ordering my French fries, or I can let it go and take the time to pour my own ketchup, when I get home. So often what we get upset about isn’t really worth the possible damage to our relationship, even though my French fries are now cold.

Choosing Love rather than Dishonor

8 01 2014

21909694_sWe are in a series called What is Love Anyway? To read all of this series on love scroll back to The Beatitudes of Love, beginning on 11/9/2013. We have finished the different words for Love in the bible and now we are looking at the fifth hindrances to love, dishonoring others.

It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking,

1 Cor 13:5

To define the word dishonor it is to fail to observe or respect someone or17053250_s something. In its verb form it is to shame or disgrace. So much of our drive to dishonor has to do with a personal desire to prove our own worth, birthed out our own selfishness.

Choosing not to shame or disrespect someone when they do wrong is to choose Love. We are asked by God to speak truth in Love, in this way we do not shame or dishonor another person.

In a marriage love covers a multitude of sin and because of that love we who are married can choose to honor our spouse, speaking truth in love, when their actions are not praiseworthy because honoring someone has nothing to do with covering sin, rather it acknowledges sin and forgives.

Envy a Hinderance to Love

4 01 2014

21909694_sWe are in a series called What is Love Anyway? To read all of this series on love scroll back to The Beatitudes of Love, beginning on 11/9/2013. We have finished the different words for Love in the bible and now we are looking at fourth hindrances to love, envy.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.”

1Co 13:4

Envy has two manifestation, the active, verb form and the passive noun form. Knowing this fact helps us to understand this verse more clearly as both the 10375220_sactive and passive forms of envy are addressed.

To envy (passive form – the noun) is to have feelings of discontent or resentful longing aroused by someone else’s possessions, qualities, or luck.

To envy (active form – the verb) is to desire to have a quality, possession or attribute belonging to someone else.

Being boastful hinders and overtakes any patience we might have in a situation and while pride overtakes and hinders any acts of kindness we might take toward another person.

I think Matthew 6 gives us a key to breaking the cycle of envy in both its active and passive forms as we are told by Matthew not to practice our righteousness in front of others and gives us the truth that our greatest reward is not from man, but from our Father in Heaven!

Self-Centerness a Common Stumbling Block

1 01 2014

21909694_sWe are in a series called What is Love Anyway? To read all of this series on love scroll back to The Beatitudes of Love, beginning on 11/9/2013. We have finished the different words for Love in the bible and now we are looking at third hindrances to love, self-centerness.

“But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil,

there will be wrath and anger.”

Romans 2:8

Being self-centered (self-seeking, self-absorbed ,or selfish) can be defined as thinking only of yourself, your possessions, your family, your profession,

James Autry and his phone

James Autry and his phone

extending to every area of life which you prefer yourself. Self-centerness prevents us from experiencing true agape love.

Romans 2 warns us of such action say; “There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.”

No one is exempt from being self-centered, not Jew or gentile. It doesn’t matter if you believe in Jesus or not, you too can easily become self-centered when you take your eyes off of God and his will.

To give you an example, I came into my office and I found a second phone sitting on the lateral filing cabinet and knowing I have limited space I wanted to know why. I was so self-centered I didn’t think about my brother in Christ who needed to plug his phone in and would remove it later, before he left. I blew it, please forgive me, James. Even when we do our best to be other focused we will have an off day. I rejoice that our sin is covered by the blood of Jesus, even the sin of self-centerness.

Millie

Fear, worries BIG Brother!

28 12 2013

21909694_sWe are in a series called What is Love Anyway? To read all of this series on love scroll back to The Beatitudes of Love, beginning on 11/9/2013. We have finished the different words for Love in the bible and now we are looking at the hindrances to love and today we look at the BIG brother of worry, fear.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.

The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

1 John 4:18

Fear is defined as: A painful emotion or passion excited by an expectation of evil, or the apprehension of impending danger. Fear can rangetaunting boys from an uneasiness of mind to stark terror depending on the object of the fear and the circumstances surround the experience.

It is these thoughts of evil from impending doom to which the author of 1 John is speaking. The fear of God’s judgment is broken when we understand and embrace the perfect love of our Father in heaven.

As the daughter of satanists, I have experienced some very awful things. Before understanding this perfect love of God, my fear, based on those awful experiences, kept me bound up to the point I could not function beyond protecting myself, making it impossible to love God and others as He intended.

Do Not Worry!

25 12 2013

21909694_sWe are in a series called What is Love Anyway? To read all of this series scroll back to The Beatitudes of Love, 11/9/2013.

James P. Gills, writes; “The road to agape love is paved with hindrances, or attitudinal characteristics of selfishness which prevent our ability to love God and other human beings.” Today we begin looking at the hindrances to love, the first is worry.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life,

what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.

Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

Mat 6:25

Worry is a defined by Gills, “as a devastating mental attitude related to self-pity which can destroy a person’s life and the lives of those around21052781_s him.” He also reminds us that some people believe worrying about others means they love them more, which is a total deception from the enemy.

Being worried not only is a hindrance to love but it also steals our joy as that which we are worried about become the burden we carry, instead of praying and giving our worry to God to receive the peace of God as Phil 4:6  tells us.

Love of Money

21 12 2013

21909694_sWe are in a series called What is Love Anyway? To read all of this series on love scroll back to The Beatitudes of Love, 11/9/2013.

Last time we looked at philadelphia and today we look at the final distinct use of the word Love in the bible, philarguria found in 1 Timothy 6.

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”

1Ti 6:10

Philarguria is the love of money, as we look deeper into the root of this word we find the root is to covetous. Webster’s dictionary tell us that tolove of Money covet is to have a strong feeling or desire for something that you do not have and especially for something that belongs to someone else. Often when we love money we find we want what doesn’t belong to us.

This can hit really close to home as people who would never play the lottery running out to buy a ticket because it has hit there greed level. Why is it that we can have such strong feelings for such an inanimate object like money?

Scripture tells us in Mat 6:24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

We would be wise to heed this warning concerning the love of money because it will save us all, so much grief.
