Job’s Confession & Repentance – Job 42

15 09 2017

bible_jobThis is the second post in our series on Job 42. Last time we began by setting the stage for Job 42 as we looked at God’s response in Job 40 and 41, revealing the sovereignty of our God. Today we will look at the first part of Job 42, verses 1 – 6, which in many versions is titled “Job’s Confession and Repentance”

Here stands Job in chapter 42 speaking to his sovereign God. In the first verse Job acknowledges no one can oppose the plans and purpose of God. Job my_confession_its_not_what_you_think_217730405 (2)continues the conversation as he confesses he is ignorant in speaking of things he could never understand.  He then continues confessing he did not know God the way he does now. Finally, in verse six Job repents as he sees himself as he truly is, dust and ashes in the face of a sovereign God.

How often do we defend ourselves (as Job did in the earlier chapters) until that moment when our sovereign God gives insight and understanding to what is taking place in our lives? Yes, sometimes it hurts when God speak truth bringing understanding to our situation, so like Job, must choose to confess our ignorant and repent for trying to defend ourselves instead of leaving that job to our sovereign God.

Join me next time as we look at Job’s friends.

Blessings & Complete Joy!

Job and a Sovereign God

8 09 2017

bible_jobThis week’s post begins a three-part series on the final chapter of Job 42.

The book of Job is comprised of 42 chapters recounting the story of the suffering of Job, a righteous man. Just as the final chapter of Job has three parts, Job is joined by three friends and three cycles of debate ensue before God himself enters the picture in chapter 40 as he begins revealing the real issue is not the suffering of a righteous man but the sovereignty of a mighty God. This revelation is where chapter 42 begins.

Job 42 is comprised of three parts. Part 1 is Job’s response to God, part 2 is God’s speaking to Job’s friends and part 3 is Job’s restoration.

We want to look at the two preceding chapters of Job in this first post because God has been talking to Job and helps him understand God is sovereign.

Sovereign by definition is: to have or possess supreme or ultimate power and authority. God has supreme/ultimate power and authority. This is something mankind has wrestled with since our creation. We grumble trying to find reasons for everything. As I look at Texas, some will look and judge its citizens. I cannot, rather I look at a sovereign God who allowed the winds to churn up and the rains to pour down upon the lone star state. I look upon the same sovereign God who limited the hand of Satan in Job’s life, and who is still controlling where the winds blow and rain fall.

Join me in praying for our nation and the natural disasters our nation is currently facing, from wild fires in the West to hurricanes and flooding in the East, then join me next week as we look at Job 42!

Blessings & Complete Joy!

Romans 8:35 – A Simple Choice?

4 08 2017

QuestionsIn this post, we are exploring this question… Who shall separate us from the love of Messiah?

Romans 8:35 reads: Who shall separate us from the love of Messiah? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?

What is Paul really asking us? He tells us that tribulations, distress, persecution all the bad things that happen to us by the hands of another, do not separate us from God’s love. He adds to this list, nakedness, danger, or sword, these things represent the absence of necessary good in our everyday lives. None of these separate us. Paul goes on to tell us in verse 38 that not even death can separate us from the love of God.rf123

Then who separates us from the Love of God? If it isn’t the events or people and clearly Paul shows us God loves us, then we have to look at ourselves.

What separates you and I (and the world) from the love of God is our denial of God and rejecting the gift of our Messiah. It is our choice to separate. If we choose by an act of our wills not to believe in God and receive by faith the gift of our savior, we separate ourselves from the love of God.

So the choices we make can shuts down our ability to receive the fullness of God’s love which is ever around us like the air we breathe.

As we go through life even after we have believed in our Messiah, we must choose to walk toward God by engaging with HIM, not turning or walking away from HIM in our daily lives. In making this simple choice we can receive the fullness of our Messiah’s love!

Blessings & Complete Joy!

Transition Believe it or NOT! part 5

20 07 2017

TransitionToday we finish our series Transition Believe it or Not! We learned several things over the course of this series, the first and foremost is no one is really ready for transition.

I love these words from Oswald Chambers “Will is the whole man active. I cannot give up my will, I must exercise it.” He goes on to say “I must will to obey and I must will to receive God’s spirit.”

As we have looked at Mary and Joseph each of them had to exercise their will to come will-of-God-questionsinto agreement with the transition of Yeshua coming into their lives. Peter reveals transition’s struggle when we choose to walk with our friends. Our time in the garden with Yeshua (Jesus) revealed what the internal struggle looks like and reminding us of what God require of us as we enter transition, death to self.

Every transition brings us to a point of decision, Joshua 24:15 put it well “choose you this day whom ye will serve” we must choose to come into agreement as with the Israelites who walked into the promised land. It was that coming into agreement in the midst of transition that gave them the power to defeat the Amorites.

As we face transitions in the coming year I pray each of us choose to serve the Lord, coming into agreement with HIS plans and purposes for our lives.

Blessings & Complete Joy!

Transition, Believe it or NOT, part 4

14 07 2017

TransitionWe are in a series called Transition believe it or not! Today we will be looking at the transition of Yeshua (Jesus) found in Matthew 26:36 – 46. This is one of my favorite stories in the bible because it shows the depth of Yeshua’s human-ness. Not only is he the son of God he also functions mightily as the son of man who wrestles with his transition in the garden of Gethsemane.

Let’s set the stage, Yeshua is walking with his disciples in Jerusalem, they come to the garden of Gethsemane, an olive grove. This is nothing out of the ordinary, Yeshua does this all the time, taking Peter and the sons of Zebedee with him as he prays. Our Messiah the son of man was sorrowful and his heart was heavy with the weight of what the following hours would bring.

Our messiah had to choose to give up his life, after all he was the son of God and no one

Christ in the Garden of Gethsemene, Heinrich Hofmann, 1890

Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane, Heinrich Hofmann, 1890

could take his life. There was pain and suffering, there would be separation, and all the hate his loving man would endure. This transition was as real as the clothes he wore so it shouldn’t surprise us that he struggled. As with Mary, Joseph and Peter, now Yeshua himself came into agreement as he said these words “O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.”

Moments later, his walk to the cross began. Join me next time as we finish this series Transition believe it or not!

Blessings & Complete Joy!

Transition: Believe it or NOT Part 3 – Christ’s Disciples

6 07 2017

TransitionWe are in a series called Transition believe it or not! Today we will be looking at the transition of the disciples found in Matthew 16:21-23 as they heard the future and responded to the news of their transition.

Here is the text from Matthew 16:

21 From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised.
22 And Peter took him and began to rebuke him, saying, “God forbid, Lord! This shall never happen to you.”
23 But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me; for you are not on the side of God, but of men.”

Clearly, they were in shock when Jesus told them what he was going to face as he went to apostlesJerusalem. They look at him as their Messiah, their Savior and how could this happen after all he was the Son of God. Still in shock, Peter who was probably the oldest of the disciples, spoke for the group rebuked him saying “God forbid, Lord! This shall never happen to you.”

Transition is tough and sometimes we, like the disciples are going to protest and even reject it. It takes time to get our heads around the idea of transition.  And sometimes even when we have time to accept the truth of transition when the time is upon us we will strike out as Peter did in the garden cutting off the guards ear, trying to control the chain of events which will cause the transition we know is suppose to happen.

Join me next time as we look at Jesus as he faces his transition in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Blessings & Complete Joy!

Transition: Believe it or NOT part 2 – Joseph

29 06 2017

Transition

In part one of our series on transition we looked at the Mary the mother of Jesus. Today we will be looking at the transition of Joseph found in Matthew 1:18 – 25 as he heard the news of becoming the father of Jesus.

Setting the scene, Joseph like many men was a black and white thinker. God understands men who are all about action, they want the bottom line and so Joseph’s transition begins with the bottom line, Mary is pregnant.

Joseph being a righteous man and knowing Mary was with child through the Holy Spirit, engaged his black and white thinking and was going to divorce her quietly.

Until he too was visited by an angel, telling him “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife…” As the angel explained what was going on and the why’s of this miraculous pregnancy Joseph came into agreement with the will of God.

Praise God for the way men think, for it gave Joseph the ability to wake up from the dream and stop reacting, choosing instead to obey God.  Scripture records Joseph woke from the dream and took Mary as his wife, having no union with her until after the birth of their son who he named Jesus as the angel had instructed him.

As you walk through transition, remember even if you are a black and white thinker, God will bring you through, just seek him!

Join me next time for part three of transition, the disciples.

Transition: Believe it or NOT part 1 – Mary

22 06 2017

Welcome to our topic Transition! Today we will look at the transition of Mary, the mother of Jesus recorded in Luke 1:26 – 38, as she receiving the news of the coming savior.

First, the angel of the Lord signals the beginning of Mary’s transition as she hears the words, “Greeting you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” It is recorded that she was greatly or deeply troubled, other translations used the word disturbed. Transition as it begins is often alarming and can deeply trouble or disturb us. This is normal reaction and we need to remember to respond rather than to react.

Second the angel encouraged her, “not to be afraid and that she had found favor with God”. Often when facing transition, we like Mary, look at it as a bad thing and we become afraid. Encouragement as we face the idea of transition helps use all!

Third, we see Mary questioning God choice; does he really know what HE is doing? Transition causes us to question what God is up to, even if like Mary who knew the scriptures, we know God is going to do something. Our question still remains, but are we really who God wants to use?

Final we see the angel sharing the news about her relative Elizabeth who was also pregnant. Mary found the comfort to come into agreement with God’s plans and later direction in how to navigate the pregnancy, going to her relative’s home.

Remember as God begins a new thing in your life, HE will bring you guidance and encouragement!

Blessings & Complete Joy!

Welcome to Transition?

16 06 2017

TransitionToday we begin talking about transition with our post, Welcome to Transition! We will endeavor in this series to simplify transition as we look at the life of Christ who made one of the largest transitions first from God to Man, becoming the atonement for our sin as our Messiah (1Jn 2:2) and then back again from Man to God as our risen lord (Lu 24:34).

Let’s define what transition is: passage from one state to another, or to change.

Transition as with the birth of a child is both wonderful and painful at the same time. Any family, will tell you that. Whether we begin with Mary or Joseph, the parent of Yeshua, both were given time to transition, both were given time to ponder, to embrace or reject the truth and meaning of the transition. With time, a key element, they both came to embrace it allowing God to prepare them for the coming season of Messiah’s birth!

Through the life of our Messiah we see everyone must come to that place of embracing transition and understanding the struggle with feelings is an important part of building kingdom authority to walk successfully in the new season which transition ushers in!

Join me next time as we look at Mary in the post, transition believe it or not part 1!

Long Time No See!

8 06 2017

moveIt is hard to believe it has been 5 months since my last post! There was a time when doing two posts a week was the norm. For my long time readers, I am still here.

Since 2013, my priorities have changed quite a bit and with the changes my time has become a precious thing. CJM has gone from no office, using my pastor’s office, to now having over 1200 feet of office space which includes a conference room for holding classes. To that in the last 4 months we have added an office in Salem at Salem House of Prayer on Wednesdays! Little did I know things were going to blossom and grow the way they have!

I am writing this blog to renew my commitment to posting once a week. This first post is just one to catch up and say, surprise I am back!

Join me next week when  I will be writing my 250 words on Transition, Believe or Not!

In Yeshua,

Millie
